I am looking for an appraiser of fine vintage 83 XS650 motorcycles. I
have sort of bobbed one a bit and would like to be able to ride it on
weekends now. To get “Vintage” insurance, I need an appraisal. Anyone
know somebody that does this?

Thanks,

Derek

I'm not sure, but I think it would have to be in Stock condition
rather than bobbed to qualify for Vintage rates?

I think the idea is, it is over 25 years old and you are only riding
it occasionally. If what you say is true, it would be hard to get
reasonable insurance for any "custom" bike. Not that any insurance is
reasonable...

I, just last week got an appraisal on a 1980 Honda, that the MTO said due to
it being Vintage (over 25) needed an appraisal.

I had to ask them who could do the appraisal, and they told me anyone
licensed to sell a used motorcycle!

So off too my local motoccycle dealer and it took him 5 minutes to fill out
the paper work. He even asked how much I wanted it appraised for.

Was this appraisal required for vintage "classic" or "vintage"
insurance or for licensing? Do you think there is a difference?

To change ownership of a vehicle over 25 years you need an appraisal by
a used car/bike dealer. It's a form from MTO and all they need is a value.
To get "vintage" insurance you MAY need a "real" appraisal from a
company your insurance recognizes as being legit, which goes into detail
about modifications, condition and value. Usually costs $150-$250 for a
car, dunno about a bike. AFAIK modifications are not a problem with the
insurance companies that do this, at least they aren't with my cars.

Check with these guys, the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group for local
appraisers and advice.
